The Tropic of Capricorn 10 of 20 – Australia – BBC Travel Documentary

    January 30th, 2011 No comments

The Tropic of Capricorn 10 of 20 – Australia – BBC Travel Documentary, recorded 21.03.2009 Simon Reeve presents a travel documentary as embarks on a journey along the Tropic of Capricorn, the line of latitude which cuts through Southern Africa, Australia and South America. In the four-part BBC2 series Tropic of Capricorn, broadcast in 2008, Simon followed the southern border of the tropics region around the world. While filming Tropic of Capricorn, Simon travelled through Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. The journey took him to stunning areas of the world, but it was also a chance for spontaneous discoveries about the changing global environment, poverty, globalisation, AIDS, the rise of the Chinese economy and the suffering of Africa. Nimbin, Australia, Travel Video Guide

Back in the early seventies Nimbin became the alternative lifestyle capital of Australia. Many of the original communes are still set up today. In recent times Nimbin has become infamous for its annual Mardi Grass festival which celebrates marijuana use. I interviewed Neil Pike, one of the original hippies to arrive in Nimbin in the 70s. Magnetic Island, Australia, Travel Video Guide

    December 28th, 2010 13 comments

Magnetic Island, ten minutes ferry ride from Townsville is unique in that it has a permanent residential population of about 2000 people. This means unlike alot of ‘resort’ islands, Magnetic caters for all budgets. More than half the Island is national park and thus wildlife such as koalas, wallabies, possums and birdlife are plentiful. I didn’t interview a local on Magnetic, I decided I would just concentrate on the natural beauty of the Island. I got some great wildlife shots and the beaches and bays are to die for.
