Travelling in Australia with RV travel trailer

Nowadays more and more Australian likes to travel in RV travel trailer. Hence, it is getting more and more Australian building their own special travel trailers by themselves. This has started become popular trend among Australian families. Here I get a good article sharing briefly on how to build a travel trailer for your reference.

How to Build a Travel Trailer

The concept of travel trailer emerged to facilitate a comfortable and relaxing journey. Let us know about the travel trailer and the techniques of building a travel trailer.

How to Build a Travel Trailer

We all love to go on vacations, take some time out from our busy schedules and just enjoy our holiday. People normally go on a holiday to a place which is away from their homes. When we are out of our houses and on a vacation, we need to plan each and everything, have everything with us arranged and this includes the arrangement of food, water and safeguarding of our belongings. Arrangements like food and water are necessary and basic requirements but the arrangements that a business traveler needs to make are slightly different. It proves helpful for the one who is traveling for business purposes if he has a mini desk or something like a mini office. This would save a lot time. For all such amenities and comforts, a lightweight travel trailers prove to be a very good option. Travel trailers not only are equipped with such amenities but also are useful with regards to security and safety. Thus, they can rightly be called as “home on wheels”.

How to Build a Travel Trailer

We actually can have a ready-to-use travel trailer, but if we find the costs of a travel trailer too high or not within the limits of our budget, we need not worry. We just need to learn to tricks of building a travel trailer on our own. The advantage here is, we can build it as per our needs, convenience and large/small depending on the family size.

Steps to Build a Travel Trailer of our Own:

Before we start constructing the trailer, here is a list of the apparatus that will be required. Electric saw of lengths of 2″ X 4″ X 1/4″ box, steel for frame, basic welding tools, axle kit (you can use torsion axles), suspension system tongue (length of square tubing), trailer hitch 1”, solid round bar, fenders, tires, 2′x8′ oak planks for the decks.

  1. Designing the trailer is an important step for building the trailer as it would help us know about the layout that we want. A five foot wide trailer is the standard size, which differs depending upon our requirements and the number of travelers. An Auto-CAD program would be useful to draw some simple structural diagrams.
  2. Once you are through with the design, you can now move further to build the travel trailer.
  3. It is always advisable to select an axle kit that would match and would have the ability to bear the weight that we are going to haul. We can choose the appropriate suspension system that would best suit the width of the trailer frame and the height of the hitch. Leaf spring and torsion bar are the two suspension options that suit the design and dimensions of such a travel trailer.
  4. The next step is to purchase steel from a steel supplier and cut it to the size according to the design and dimensions. Having the proper equipment to cut the steel is important. If the right cutting material is not available, it is suggested to rather go with the design to a steel yard with that particular facility.
  5. Make sure that the axle of the travel trailer fits below the frame before welding the frame with it and then tackle the welds. The frame should be flat and even, to bear the weight of the contents that you are going to carry.
  6. You would regularly be loading and uploading things if you are going to stop frequently. You need to position the axle at about 6” behind the frame’s center closer to the center of gravity. Now fix the tires. However, care should be taken that the axle is square and centered; and there is uniform distance from the hitch to each of the wheel. The axle should be attached with ‘C’ clamps to the frame.
  7. The next step is to mount the tongue to a crossbar in front of the axle. In order to give the trailer the ability to pivot, reinforcing gussets should be installed between the mounting tabs. The next step is to weld a latch to the center of the tongue. This is done to control tilting and fit the trailer with its suspension system.
  8. To create a point for lights and license plates, fenders need to installed by welding them with small rods and low heat. The fenders should be reinforced with angle iron. The trailer’s side rails and vertical side braces can be created by welding the section of angle iron together.
  9. The next step of building a travel trailer is to cut the oak planks with a saw, so as to prepare the floor of the trailer. Here, care should be taken that the cutting fits the deck measurements of the trailer and also the deck should be secured and made steady with the help of some iron framework.
  10. The last step is to sand, prime and finally paint the trailer.

There are many types of trailers that are available in a ready to use position or that could be made according to our needs and these include the ultra lite travel trailers, vintage travel trailers etc. We can even add many trailer accessories that we would like to have in our vehicle, such as television, computer, Internet connection, microwave oven, a mini refrigerator etc. The travel trailer is ready to hit the roads and serve you during your journeys. Wishing you a Happy Journey.

used camper trailers Australia

Nowadays, more and more Australian like to spend their summer holiday in Australia instead of flying to other countries. Travelling with RV camper trailers in Australia become more and more popular. You can notice this when you see more and more tent trailers for hire services can be found in most of town like Sydney, Perth, Melbourn, Brisbane, Adelaide. You can easily hire camper trailers in Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourn or other Australia city, especially city with lots of tourist attractions.

So, I have done a research online and surprise to see about 1000s people is searching for hiring or buying a camper trailer for them to go for holidays. Here, i have read a good article about how to find economic camper trailers, so i put it here as some tips for you.

Economic Camper Trailers

Do you remember growing up and taking the camper out with your parents or grandparents? Exploring new places, streams, lakes, forests. Enjoying nature, eating food you can cook on a stick, and playing cards by lantern light well into the night? Camping is a time honored tradition in many countries like the US and the UK. Camper trailers or “coaches” as they call them overseas are a very popular way to get out and unwind after weeks of stress that builds from modern living.

Camper trailers are a very convenient and easy way to take a weekend holiday. They are typically small and lightweight, they tend to be easily towed by even a normal car, and they are easy to transport and more importantly- store when you’re not camping. Some of these campers are hard shelled, and they have a teardrop shape that helps keep the mileage down on your gas bills as you drive to and from the camping grounds. Often they have features like mini kitchens and burners, possibly a small generator for electricity, and cabinets for storing your camping supplies and food. Basically everything you need for any weekend warrior type.

Folding campers are good compromises between a full on RV and a backpack with a tent. They offer the small space and price that makes them available to many, while still providing the creature comforts you know and love and yes… even need.

When traveling alone, with two people, or even with a small family, a small camper is a fun purchase to make for everybody. There’s nothing quite like taking your tea alongside a flowing river, or cooking some fresh s’mores on an open fire. Those are memories that you will hold close in your heart for years to come.

There are many different brands of campers and travel trailers, and used camper trailers are a hot ticket item in the Summer, Spring, and Fall times. Especially in an economy that makes international vacations unrealistic, owning your very own version of a hotel room and taking it out on the weekends is a great way to get the R&R you need while not spending more money that you don’t have.

What is Light Folding Camper Trailers?

jayco-j-trax-folding-camping-trailer-2007.jpg

Above is an example of Jayco J/Trax folding camper trailers launched in 2007.  I got the explanation about folding camper trailers as below:

Folding tent trailer or caravan has one of the frame member supporting the tent connected to the free end of a lever which forms part of a device articulated like a deformable parallelogram further comprising two connecting rods pivoted to the trailer box and coupled by the lever, so that the frame member is elongated in the unfolded position to stretch the tent and is shortened in the folded position to fit it within the box.”

Light Folding Camper Trailers Are a Dream

Are you considering buying a new or used camper trailer or tent trailer? Does the allure of the outdoors, the freedom of the wind in your hair, and the fresh scent of cedar make you pine for mother nature? Camping is a time honored tradition in many countries, particularly popular in the US, Canada, and of course the UK. Tent trailers and ultra light camper trailers are quite popular among camping enthusiasts to make their weekend warrior days a little easier and more enjoyable.

If you love the adventure sports and your journeys frequently take you deep into the wilderness, then likely you will love having a light tent trailer to tow with you for a comfortable shelter and protection from the elements. Easily towed behind your car, and quickly set up once you reach your destination these innovative pop up campers can be a tremendous asset and your best friend on the trail. These kinds of trailers also tend to be very cost effective and easily stored when you have to go back to real life in the office. Coleman and Starcraft both are popular folding camper trailers that sport ultra light models. Quite often they will comfortably sleep two people, and have space for your necessary items even if you are bringing along kayaks and rock climbing gear for some extreme excitement.

It’s always a comfort to know you have a cozy home waiting for you after a tough day of kayaking the rapids or flashing a new route on the boulders. These campers are also good off road and are quite rugged, making them the ultimate travel companion.

Easy on the pocketbook, light on the gas mileage, quick to set up, and tiny to store, there are many reasons why you would want to look into a folding camper trailer. Leave the RV camping to the old folks, and the tent camping to the young and stupid, getting an ultra light folding camper trailer is an excellent compromise between roughing it in the wilderness while still enjoying some protection and comfort that you deserve.

How to Choose Suitable Camper Trailers

September 24th, 2009 No comments

Nowadays, more Australian buying camper trailers Australia for their summer outings. There are many camper trailers brand choices in the store, such as Jayco, Coleman, etc in Australia. If you are planning to buy or hire a camper trailers for a trip within Austria, it is better you need to know what is the purpose of your journey first before you go to choose your perfect trailers for you and your family.

I have found a good article about choosing perfect camper trailers for family. Check out this article below:

Choosing A Camper Trailer That Is Perfect For Your Family

The beauty of camper trailers is that if you choose well and get the best, you’ll enjoy the trip, get the luxury that you need, and perhaps get most of your investment back once you’ve finished.
The fun in traveling usually starts on the pre-trip preparations. The decision over the ‘living quarters’ poses the greatest difficulty. Aside from the wide range of travel trailers that can be bought ‘off the shelf’ or custom-made to your preference, there are also a lot of new camper options that are coming out in the market such as slide-outs and roof top tents that satisfy the comfort factor with ready-made beds and a compact living solutions. No more bother with setting up airbeds and sleeping bags, all the bedding is stored where it will be used.
The problem is that what may be just right for you is not just the thing for the next person, in the same way that, what may be perfect for you today, may not be later.

Some people argue that towing a trailer for an off-road trip is an inconvenience; however there are a lot of advantages of a travel trailer. Making a good purchase of a camper trailer can overcome this idea of it being an inconvenience.

How do you choose a camper trailer?

When you first start looking for travel trailers, don’t easily fall into the trap of making comparisons based on aesthetics and options, rather check on the major components that really set the trailer apart from another. Consider your budget and your growing or diminishing family. Whether you purchase or rent a travel trailer, your needs come first and the enjoyment and safety of your trip depends on a perfectly chosen camper trailer.

Major Components

* Chassis

The longevity of your camper trailer’s life depends on the quality of the chassis, both materials and construction. Have an extremely stout trailer but keep an eye on the weight. Some manufacturers use box tubing which does not allow twist. It’s not necessary to increase the size of the tubing because an increase in wall thickness of the tubing makes the chassis stronger. Be aware that the use of zincseal or zincannel in campers means there is less rusting hence longer life than can be achieved by paint alone.

* Springs and suspension

Springs are important to camper 1000 trailers and are often the part that fails when people take trailers into off-road trips, that’s why it’s prudent to consider how to repair or replace a broken spring on a trailer. Be aware of the right springs for the right weight or use of trailer. If over-engineered, the trailer could bounce excessively on some roads, or if too soft, will ‘bottom-out’ likely breaking the leaves. Use of shock absorbers along with springs will smooth the ride, but the angle should be right or they will be inefficient.

* Doors/Tailgate

Anything that opens or shuts on your camper trailer has to be dustproof and waterproof or you’re in for a mess when you stop to setup camp. Those who have towed any sort of camper will understand this. To the new ones, it is essential that you look for first- rate seals on trailer doors, even for tool boxes. Look for automotive style rubber seal, ideally adjustable sealing locks to allow tighter sealing with use. Doors need to be lockable.

* Tires / Rims

While tires on your camper are not driving wheels, do not accept second rate tires, for they are the best storage option for spares for the vehicle, so always ensure that they are all the same profile, width and running on the same rims. It’s also a driving advantage if your camper trailer can run in the same way paved by your vehicle in heavy-going 4WD situations, such as sand, mud, ruts, and others.

* Canvas & Awnings

Camper canvas needs to be waterproofed and ideally mildew-proof. The roof and over- trailer canvas has to be heavy-duty for first-rate waterproofing. Look for strong and long lasting flymesh, as some will perish with continuous folding and UV exposure. An awning is an essential addition to your camp to sit under, cook under, and to provide shade, shelter and extended living space.

* Mattresses

The whole point of towing a camper trailer is for the comfort of having a place to sleep. Choose a suitable mattress size for your trailer. A proper sprung mattress will out-weigh the price tag difference with longevity. Most ‘off the shelf’ trailers will only accommodate a foam mattress so check if the travel cover is deep enough for an inner spring mattress.

* Stoneguard

All vehicles flick up stone, when a vehicle is pulling a trailer, the stones often hit the trailer, damaging both the front of the trailer and often rebounding back that could break the vehicle’s rear windows. A rock deflector on a camper trailer is advisable to have.

* Trailer Hitch

It is vital to use a coupling that enables almost full 360 degree turning to safely tow a trailer behind a 4WD in off-road conditions. The most popular system is TREG.

* Add Ons

Kitchen
Tool Box
Water tank
Boat rack
12 Volt power
Electric brakes
Bike rack

Knowing how to select the right camper trailer should come with knowing how much it will cost too. Camper trailers range in design and construction to suit the purchaser’s needs and budgets which is anything from $8,000 – $45,000 or more.
