Pop Up Camper Trailers

Sylvan Sport's Pop-Up Tent Trailer

Above is just an example of pop up camper trailer from Sylvan Sport pop-up trailer. A person uses a hydraulic lift to open and lift up the top portion of the camper, the beds on the ends are slid out, and any other slides included on the camper are slid out, and a person is well on their way to getting their camper set up. This is called pop up camper trailers.

Pop-up Campers & Van, Truck and Tent Travel Trailers

A family of four can sleep comfortably in the trailer, especially if the kids are young enough to sleep in the same bed.

The basic unit has two fold outs, that are used as sleeping quarters. The main part has a small dinette, a storage area and a cooking area with a tiny refrigerator. Generally there is an outdoor shower and a grilling area.

Notice a toilet is not mentioned. The low end pop-up trailers don’t have them. Many people use portable toilets for emergencies and use the campground facilities otherwise.

The higher priced campers often have cassette toilets a shower better cooking facilities and some have a slide out extra room to give you extra living space. The extra room is a boon when everyone is stuck inside due to inclement weather. Remember to pack some games and toys for the kids and a good book for yourself.

Your family should have no problem eating and sleeping in the pop-up as long as you don’t have to stay indoors for long periods of time. You are protected from the elements by heavy duty canvas and a metal rook.

One problem new RV-ers have with their pop-ups, is backing into your campsites. Take it slow and have someone guide you in or choose a pull through campsite.

The only other major expense you will have is the cost of the hitch, which is less than 500 dollars. The increased consumption of gasoline is minimal and your insurance and tolls for your camper is much less than it would be for high end RV’s.

Our first camper was a Coleman pop-up that we bought used. We used it for two years and had a blast. It was sold to a friend when we bought a camper van.

If you aren’t sure about whether you would enjoy RV-ing and don’t want to hassle with having to get the RV back to the dealer by a certain time, get yourself a used pop-up and I guarantee you will be hooked on RV-ing.

To get discounts on campground and RV rentals as well as RV parts you should join the Good Sam Club. The club also provides a discount RV insurance and an excellent roadside assistance program. This group also has message boards where you can ask questions and make life-long friendships.

There are dozens of websites where you can find places to rent or buy a pop-up camper-trailer. You can also look in hunting or other outdoor sports magazine want ads for used campers.

Auction sites like E-bay often have pop-ups listed either for direct sale or as an auction item. If you shop wisely you can save big money here on your used trailer.

Coleman is one of the manufacturers of pop-ups a.k.a. fold out trailers. They have been in business since 1978. You can’t go wrong with one of their campers.

The pop-up actually has some advantages over the bigger more luxurious motor homes. The camper is easier to maintain and store. Also once you get to your campsite and set up, the tow vehicle can be used to go sightseeing, shopping or to visit local attractions. You can’t park a big motor home in front of the local mini-mart.

Cost-wise the care, maintenance and use of a pop-up is cheaper than the bigger mobile homes. Enjoy your pop-up camper trailer.

What is Light Folding Camper Trailers?

jayco-j-trax-folding-camping-trailer-2007.jpg

Above is an example of Jayco J/Trax folding camper trailers launched in 2007.  I got the explanation about folding camper trailers as below:

Folding tent trailer or caravan has one of the frame member supporting the tent connected to the free end of a lever which forms part of a device articulated like a deformable parallelogram further comprising two connecting rods pivoted to the trailer box and coupled by the lever, so that the frame member is elongated in the unfolded position to stretch the tent and is shortened in the folded position to fit it within the box.”

Light Folding Camper Trailers Are a Dream

Are you considering buying a new or used camper trailer or tent trailer? Does the allure of the outdoors, the freedom of the wind in your hair, and the fresh scent of cedar make you pine for mother nature? Camping is a time honored tradition in many countries, particularly popular in the US, Canada, and of course the UK. Tent trailers and ultra light camper trailers are quite popular among camping enthusiasts to make their weekend warrior days a little easier and more enjoyable.

If you love the adventure sports and your journeys frequently take you deep into the wilderness, then likely you will love having a light tent trailer to tow with you for a comfortable shelter and protection from the elements. Easily towed behind your car, and quickly set up once you reach your destination these innovative pop up campers can be a tremendous asset and your best friend on the trail. These kinds of trailers also tend to be very cost effective and easily stored when you have to go back to real life in the office. Coleman and Starcraft both are popular folding camper trailers that sport ultra light models. Quite often they will comfortably sleep two people, and have space for your necessary items even if you are bringing along kayaks and rock climbing gear for some extreme excitement.

It’s always a comfort to know you have a cozy home waiting for you after a tough day of kayaking the rapids or flashing a new route on the boulders. These campers are also good off road and are quite rugged, making them the ultimate travel companion.

Easy on the pocketbook, light on the gas mileage, quick to set up, and tiny to store, there are many reasons why you would want to look into a folding camper trailer. Leave the RV camping to the old folks, and the tent camping to the young and stupid, getting an ultra light folding camper trailer is an excellent compromise between roughing it in the wilderness while still enjoying some protection and comfort that you deserve.

Family Camping – Picking The Best Family Tent

Being able to get outside with your entire family is something special. The thoughts of the wide open spaces, fresh air and quiet woods make you want to grab your family cabin tent and hit the road. Where you go does not matter just the thought of enjoying the time together as a family is what is important. A lot of people will stay away from a family tent, preferring a bigger, roomier trailer, or RV. The reason for this is that they often have not really looked into what is available in the way of roomy family camping tents. Lets look at things to consider when picking a family cabin tent.

1. Find The Right Size Family Cabin Tent

Family tents are all rated with a size according to how many people they can sleep. There are two person tents, three person tents, etc but you don’t reach family camping tents size until you get to five or greater. Regardless of what the size rating says, make sure you buy one that is big enough for you, your camping gear, and a little bit of extra space for each person. For example, if you have a family of 5 people, you will want to look at an 8-person tent to make sure you have room each person, and your gear. You may even look into a family dome tent for a little more floor space.

2. Be Sure To Consider Tent Strength

Some of the criticism of sleeping in family camping tentsis that they will easily rip and then you spend the weekend with bugs, and rain. In reality, family camping tents have gotten much stronger and reliable over the years. When you are about to purchase a family camping tents be sure to look carefully at the construction of the tent. Are the seams double stiched? Does it have reinforced grommets? Are the poles flimsy or heavy duty? Is the mesh screen thick or thin construction? Be sure that all of these things are of good quality and that four or five people will be comfortable and not have any problems.

3. The Design And Shape Of The Tent

A family tent can come in a few different configurations. However, there are three basic shapes that are the most popular. A majority of tents are an “A” frame design. These tents have two sides raised at the ends with a flat back and front. The sides are sloped towards a peak forming an ‘A’. Larger families will find this design unsuitable. There are Walled style tents that have poles at each end, and sometimes one in the middle. A 1000 large family will find this style of tent to be more comfortable an will provide more room for campers and storeage. These types of tents also have extra rooms for privacy.

If you are going camping as a family, the best overall shape to look into is a family dome tent. These tents are more secure, and stable that any other kind as the wind can go around the curve structure. In addition, family dome tents provide better floor space because you do not have a pole in the middle. You can also extend some tents with additional rooms or vestibule for privacy, or individual rooms. The best feature of a family dome tent is that is is very quick and easy to both setup and repack.

No matter what tent style you choose, going family tent camping will bring your family closer together and provide experiences everyone will always remember.

Camper Trailers review and buying guide

If you are new and don’t have enough knowledge about camping trailers, you would better read this article before you proceed to buy any camper trailers for yourself.

Everything You Need to Know about Camping Trailers

There are two main types of camping trailers, and which one you will want to buy will depend on your needs and on your budget.

A great alternative to “roughing it” while camping is to rent or purchase one of the many models of camping trailers available on the market. Camping trailers can range from a hard-top tent trailer that requires some set-up and will easily pull behind even a small sized car through to a larger, all-in-one unit that is literally a home away from home on wheels. Each type of camping trailer has pros and cons to ownership, but one of the largest factors with any type of trailer is the cost.

The pop-up or fold down tent trailerg is a less expensive option for campers that will be camping in established campgrounds or at least in areas where there is access by road. These camping trailers have an aluminum and steel or fiberglass and steel bottom with a lid or top that securely fastens while the trailer is being stored or moved. The trailer lid or top is raised through a crank mechanism to its full height of about eight feet over the bed area of the trailer. There are two or three bunks or sleeping platforms that then fold out, giving the appearance of a tent. These areas are usually large enough to comfortably hold two adults each and are roughly the size of a very large double bed. There may also be extensions that can be used to provide even more sleeping and relaxing space.

Most models of the camping trailer will also include permanent storage cupboards within the bed area. These are ideal for storing utensils, supplies and even clothing. In many models, small fridges and freezers, sinks, countertops and even cooking surfaces are built in to provide all the comfort of home. The central area has a collapsible table and a bench-like arrangement providing lots of seating. The newer models of tent trailers may also be wired for electricity and can easily be hooked to a generator for the full conveniences of home.

The more deluxe versions of a camping trailer are the fifth-wheel trailer and the travel trailer. These are completely rigid body trailers that are very comparable to a small apartment that is rectangular in shape and contains all the comforts of home. Most fifth-wheel and travel-camping trailers have showers, indoor toilet facilities, separate sleeping areas and even a full, apartment sized kitchen area. Many of these trailers have a generator in the design of the unit and there may even be options for television sets, entertainment units and even wireless internet connections.

Choosing the right camping trailer does require some thought and consideration, as well as some attention to your budget and spending requirements. Both types of trailers are relatively durable and will last for many years with proper care and maintenance. Storage for the smaller tent style camping trailers is easier for most people than trying to store the large fifth-wheel trailers and travel trailers. Spend some time looking around or even consider renting some different camping trailers to try out before you decide on the model and brand that is right for you and your family.
