In Cairns I interviewed Peter Stokes from Cairns Dive Centre. Peter has been involved in the dive industry for the last 15 years. We discussed why Cairns is such a dive mecca. Fantastic underwater shots courtesy of Nembrotha Diving. I also took in a night out at well known backpacker party place, ‘the Woolshed’ and visited the quaint rainforest village of Kuranda

is it really that good? i am going to live there next summer and know very little about the place. It is a place though that everyone who has been seems to rave about. I guess if nothing else it’s a good place to start

When I wasin Cairns in 1988 I stayed one night at a hostel. The people there insisted I had to leave my passport with them. I told them NO WAY. Finally they gave in. Next evening I overheard some poor Canadian guy who said he’d left his passport with them and they later told him it had gone missing. Hmmm.

didnt like Cairns at all because of the people’s bad attitudes. As well as the no camping anywhere. Diving would be great though

Oh man, I’m sorry timtama. Sounds to me that you were seriously unlucky. Most of the people I met were some of the most open and kind people I’ve ever met.
The nature was simply perfect, great parties, plenty of activities. I seriously loved Cairns, and I will return to cairns again one day- hopefully for the rest of my life:)

Cairns was good in the olden days before it got raped by tourism….
You will not find many of the original Cairns people there, they left cause it hurts to watch your home get raped…
    Like me…

Didnt even see Cairns at all in dis vid! Just saw da reef and poxy Kuranda! What about da Reef Casino, “The Rainforest Dome” , Cairns Central Shopping Centre, Tjapukai, The Esplanade Night Markets??? This vid was a poor representation!

Okay so I agree with you that they should of shown more of Cairns City and other tourists attractions but the Kuranda is not Poxy!! It is great and I think Cairns has improved heaps!!

It’s not really the most northern Port. They forgot Port Douglas.

When in Cairns dont take any valuables with you. Cairns has a high crime rate, bag snatching is a popular past time for some of the younger locals.
